Do you need digital activities to teach about cells and cell theory but still want your lessons to be engaging? This digital resource has been specifically designed to maintain inquiry and critical thinking activities in a digital platform while introducing cells and cell theory! Its perfect for any distance learning needs including whole-class distance learning or students needing independent study.

You’ll start your students off with a digital card sort activity, challenging them to develop their own ideas about what qualifies something as living or non-living, a key aspect of cell theory. The digital cards can be moved and sorted in the digital notebook students will use in this cell theory lesson.

While some cards may seem obvious, others will leave students pondering. Guided questions on the worksheet and group discussion will help them formulate their ideas. You can engage students with group discussion live or using online resources.

Next, students will engage in a Makerspace cell exploration activity, focusing on another part of the cell theory – cell differentiation. This activity has been modified for the digital platform, giving students 2 versions to choose from as they complete this cell exploration activity. Students will have the opportunity to complete a hands-on version of the activity or an online search image portfolio.

Finally, after engaging in these digital inquiry activities, students will read about cell theory using the included reading passage (3 versions are available- a digital version that is part of the digital notebook, a separate digital version with larger print, and a printable PDF version) and take notes on the digital note-taking worksheet.

The entire resource is created through Google Slides as a digital science notebook with hyperlink tabs and table of contents, making it easy to assign.
