GROWING BUNDLE – Year Long Life Science Middle School Curriculum

Are you looking to create a year of hands-on, interactive learning experiences for your middle school life science classroom? If so, this bundle is for you!

Every lesson included in this year-long life science middle school bundle is built around phenomena for students to explore, question, and wonder about. The lessons are based on the Next Generation Science Standards and are put together in easy-to-teach, thematic units. Many of the lessons include digital counterparts to the pdf worksheets and a variety of formats and platforms to fit your teaching needs!

Units and Lessons currently in the bundle are:

1. Information Processing Unit- Students explore the nervous system and sensory systems while also exploring their learning styles. Lessons include- Learning Styles, Parts of the Eye, Parts of the Ear, The Kinesthetic Sense, and The Nervous System.

2. Cells- The Building Blocks of Life Unit- Students gain a foundational understanding about the cell through microscope labs and more. Lessons include- What are Cells?, Microscopes, Cells and Organelles, 3-D Cell Models, and the Cell City Project.

3. Plants and Photosynthesis Unit- Students dive deeper into the plant cell to discover how photosynthesis is responsible for the food they eat. Lessons include- What’s on my Plate?, Vascular System, Leaf System, and Chemical Reaction of Photosynthesis.

4. Body Systems and Cellular Respiration- Students continue their exploration from the previous unit to discover how our body systems convert the food we eat into energy. Lessons include- Research Report on Diseases, The Digestive System, The Respiratory System, The Circulatory System, and Chemical Reaction of Cellular Respiration.

5. Growth and Reproduction- Students return to the cell to find out more about how these living things continue to live, grow, and reproduce. Lessons include- Mitosis and Meiosis.

6. Genetics and Heredity- Students start to focus on how traits get passed down from one generation to the next through basic Mendelian genetic principles. Lessons include- What is DNA?, Heredity- Dominant and Recessive Traits, Heredity- Incomplete and Co-Dominant Traits, Heredity- Sex-linked Traits, and The Genetic Monsters Project.

7. Genetic Mutations- Students investigate whether errors can occur in genes and what the affect of those errors might be. Lessons include – DNA, Proteins, and Traits; Errors in Genetic Material; and Genetic Mutations in Individuals and Populations.
